Esio Trot by: Roald Dahl

Isaac Ho's book review

This story is about a little tortoise named Alfie. Its owner was a widow named Mrs Silver. She wanted Alfie to grow bigger. One day, Mrs Silver was talking to Mr Hoppy her neighbour and she asked him how to make Alfie grow bigger.

Mr Hoppy gave her a piece of paper, it read "Esio Trot, Esio Trot ...". Mr Hoppy told her that it was written backwards. He told her to read it to Alfie three times a day. Mr Hoppy went to every petshops in town to find similar tortoises but 2 ounces more than Alfie's weight. He lowered a new tortoise by the end of each week to Mrs Silver's garden. By the end of the seventh week, it weighed 27 ounces which was twice of Alfie's weight. One afternoon, Mrs Silver invited Mr Hoppy to her house because Alfie grew bigger, so he asked Mrs Silver to marry him.

And a few week later they got married and lived happily ever after. And as for Alfie, he was bought by a little girl called Roberta.

I like this book as it is interesting and has a very happy ending.

The Story of Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting

Dr John Dolittle lived in a little town called Puddleby-on-the-marsh. One day, he received a
mysterious call from Africa that the monkeys were all dying from a horrible epidemic.

So Dr Dolittle rented a boat and his animals sailed off to Africa and to save the monkeys. When he
healed all the monkeys, the monkeys presented a Pushmi-Pullyu to the doctor as a token of their
appreciation. The Pushmi-Pullyu is a two-headed deer that is hard to catch, because one of its head is
awake while the other is sleeping.

I wish I could speak animal language like Dr Dolittle. Then I can make a living being a vet.

"No," said the docter,"you cannot. You have been a sailor long enough-and sent many stout ships and good men to the bottom the sea. For the rest of your life you must be a peaceful farmer. The shark is waiting. Do not waste any more of his time. Make up your mind''

A Very Merry Christmas by Geronimo Stilton

A holiday trip to New York turned out to be disastrous when Geronimo's luggage got switched with another female passenger. He searched the entire city for the passenger and visited Columbia University, Empire State Building, Times Square and many other places.

Finally, when the clock struck twelve to Christmas,Geronimo found his luggage and the presents he prepared for his family and friends. What a great gift he received for Christmas.

After reading this book, it makes me want to visit this Big Apple but I have to be careful not to loose my luggage.

All Because of a Cup of Coffee by Geonimo Stilton

Geronimo Stilton (GS) was in love, one day he was in a coffee shop when he spotted the most beautiful rodent in the world. From that day, he started acting strangely. He even bought red roses and chocolates for her. She did not call to thank him for it. So Geronimo kept crying but his family cheered him up by bringing him on an adventure to find the Eighth Wonder of the world - the Valley of the Cheesettes. At the end of his adventure, he realised he did not like the girl anymore, instead he found fame and fortune.

I wish I can be like GS travelling around the world looking for an adventure and eventually become rich and famous.

The Kingdom of Fantasy by Geronimo Stilton

Geronimo unexpectedly entered to the Kingdom of Fantasy and became an unwilling hero. He was to awake the Queen of the Fairies from her deep sleep. But before he could do that, Geronimo had to face giant scorpions, witches, sea serpents, pixies and many more mystical creatures.

I liked the Gnomes in the story because they are environmentally creatures. In their kingdom, you could find a hospital for wounded animals and a plant clinic. I wish we have that in Singapore. In this book, there is a new writing called Fantasian Alphabet. I wish we can learn to write in this strange writings, that will be interesting.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes an adventure.
